Once upon a time, there was a little girl called Hawra. This is her Superhero Story, and she wants to share it with you.

When Hawra was little, she was quiet and a little shy. She wasn’t always the first one to speak, the first one to answer, or the first one to jump into something new. Hawra liked to take her time. A little like a turtle. She would peek out, look around, and notice what was happening before deciding what to do next.

And do you know what?

Taking her time helped Hawra notice things that other people sometimes missed. She noticed when a friend’s smile suddenly disappeared. She noticed when someone looked worried, even if they said, “I’m fine”. She noticed happy giggles, quiet sighs, nervous faces, and BIG feelings hiding behind very small words. Hawra wondered about all those feelings.

What makes someone feel happy? What makes someone feel worried? And what makes each person so wonderfully different?

As Hawra grew, she noticed something else too. Every child had something special inside.

One child could make everyone laugh. One was wonderfully kind. One could tell the most AMAZING stories. One loved to dance. One loved to draw. One could build a LEGO tower almost as tall as a giraffe! And one might feel nervous on the inside but still find enough courage to try something new. Hawra realized that Superpowers don’t always look BIG and flashy.

Sometimes a Superpower is kindness. Sometimes it is courage. Sometimes it is creativity. Sometimes it is taking your time. And sometimes it is simply noticing when somebody needs a friend. But Hawra discovered something tricky too…Sometimes Big Worries can get very loud. Sometimes Big Feelings can make it hard to remember all the wonderful things about ourselves.

“Hmmmm”, Hawra wondered. “Where do our Superpowers go when that happens?” Then she discovered something very important. They don’t go anywhere! They are still inside us. Sometimes we just need a little help finding them again. When Hawra grew up, she decided she wanted to help kids do exactly that.

So she became a psychologist, or, as we like to say at Kids Reconnect, a Feelings Helper!

And what does a Feelings Helper do? Listens,  wonders, plays, creates and gets curious about YOU. Because Hawra believes what she discovered when she was that quiet little girl: there is no one else in the whole world exactly like you. Even the things that make you wonderfully, amazingly different. Those are all parts of your Superhero Story. And Hawra can’t wait to meet you and help you discover the Superpowers that make you wonderfully YOU!

Her graduate research explored mental health, culture, trauma, and well-being, strengthening her understanding of how children and families can be shaped by their individual experiences and environments.
