Back to school scaries :

Lots of back to school scaries are about unknowns, who is my teacher, will my friends be in my class, can I handle the class work? Letting your child know it’s normal, many kids their age feel the same can help bring a sense of common humanity to their fears and “scaries”. Reminding them of times they handled the unexpected like the prior year, and letting them know it is ok not to be sure yet about the new grade can help them feel connected. If possible, helping them build confidence around handling unknowns will be helpful too, statements like “I don’t know yet but once I will I will be ok,” reminding them these fears and scaries will past , “just like all the years before,” and of course , extending an invitation: “I am always here to listen to you, keep coming to me and letting me know when these feelings come up. “ for more tips, meet with a member of our kids reconnect team !
