Once upon a time, in a little house by a lake, lived a lovely little girl named Lena. Like all kids, Lena loved to play, to laugh, to explore, and to learn more. She had a favourite toy, a lovely green turtle, with smiling, gentle eyes.

Like her turtle, Lena was usually full of smiles. She got good grades in school and played all kinds of sports, until one day, she got grumpy. That day she forgot her homework, and her softball team lost an important game. Her tummy hurt and her feelings got big.

She started to think worried thoughts. They stacked up like big, heavy rocks in her backpack. Such a heavy load for a little girl.

Lena sighed and cried for a while.

Like heavy rocks, lots of big worries spun in her head, and that night she cried, thinking “It’s too much, those rocks are too heavy!” before falling asleep.

How Lena practiced and grew her Superpowers

But then—whoosh! With gentle cheer, a green turtle swam into her dreams. Her shell was shiny, and she had sweet, kind eyes.

Hi Lena, I’m Tilly,” she said.  I’ll swim with you, right by your side.

her patience Superpowers

Tilly and Lena had a great time swimming. She helped Lena find her patience.

When you feel that your feelings get big, don’t race,” she explained. “Stop to breathe more slowly, my friend. Just do one thing at a time.

That’s how Lena learned that when you use your patience, it grows stronger each day, little by little, hour by hour. You can’t get patience Superpowers all at once, straight away. You have to practice.

Slow but steady, Tilly showed Lena how to sort through her feelings and tasks with care, one by one. They picked up one little rock at a time, and stacked them up together to make a beautiful feelings castle.

Then, with Tilly’s help, Lena practiced her softball skills, getting better and better at pitching, running, hitting the ball, throwing, and so much more. Beyond softball, she learned that playing, practicing, growing, being kind, sportsmanship, and teamwork are way more important than winning a game.

When Lena woke up, she felt better. She practiced, day by day: breathing, doing her homework tasks one at a time, playing sports, and having fun.

Her softball team won the next game, and even the championships!

Now that she has grown up, Lena’s kindness, sportsmanship, patience, and perseverance Superpowers sparkle as bright as the stars. She has coached many teens to play sports, to believe in themselves, and to support each other as a team.

Lena now works at Kids Reconnect, a child psychology clinic, and is working on getting a master’s degree to become a psychologist. She can’t wait to welcome you and your parents when you visit!
