Basira’s Professional Bio

Basira Rahimi is a Registered Provisional Psychologist on the Kids Reconnect child therapist team. She holds a Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Psychology from Mount Royal University and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. Basira is currently completing her provisional registration hours at Kids Reconnect under the supervision of Marcella Galizia, MA, RPsych.

Basira’s extensive experience working with kids and teens

In addition to her clinical training, with a strong foundation in trauma-informed care, risk assessment, crisis intervention, and evidence-based care, Basira also has ten years of professional experience as an educator working with youth ages 11 to 17. Her experience as an educator cultivated her patient, gentle, serene empathy and awarded her practical, nuanced insights into child and adolescent development.

Basira “gets” kids: not just their challenges, but also their strengths, hopes, and dreams.

She is accomplished at tailoring creative, effective strategies to engage them in playful ways that speak to their social and relational interests, strengths, and feelings. As an emotionally aware and highly skilled active listener, she also understands where parents are coming from, and appreciates parents’ concerns about their child’s struggles and behaviour. She loves helping parents understand their kids and teens, and helping them to co-create a supportive family environment that fosters emotional regulation, resilience, and positive coping mechanisms. This enhances kids’ well-being in the moment, and helps them gradually gain the skills and tools they need to succeed at school, and at any endeavour they apply themselves to for the future.

A culturally sensitive champion of diversity and empowerment, Basira is experienced at fostering self-esteem, positive relationships, and inclusive environments. Her experience includes supporting refugee and immigrant children who experienced trauma, helping them feel safe and valued, as well as supporting women who have experienced violence.

Basira’s clinical approach to help kids grow and thrive

To help kids and teens in overcoming challenges, developing emotional regulation skills, improving their interpersonal and family relationships, and gain the foundational skills they need to thrive at school, Basira’s therapeutic approach integrates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness practices, and client-centred approaches. She is also pursuing specialized training in play therapy to further support young clients through expressive, child-led approaches.

She is excited to support you and your child or teen to dream bigger and help them grow the grounded competence and self-confidence they need to thrive beyond their most amazing dreams.
