At Kids Reconnect, we love and appreciate human Superpowers

Our website reflects that. We know that the connection between families and therapists starts long before the first session. Much more often than not, a client’s experience starts with a website click.

When parents are searching for a child psychologist in Calgary, they’re not just looking for credentials. They’re looking for warmth. For trust. For a sense that their child will be understood and cared for. And that’s why since its inception, Kids Reconnect directors made clear, values-driven choices:

  • No stock photos
  • No AI-generated images
  • Just real people, in our real space

In this blog post, we’re excited to share the human behind the photos you see on our website — and our choice to use real, authentic images of our team and space, along with paid models, through a special collaboration with Calgary-based, award-winning professional photographer Svetlana Yanova.

When we first invited Svetlana to capture our team and our child psychology clinic in 2021, she didn’t just show up with a camera. She showed up with immense talent and a huge heart. Svetlana also brought her kindness, care, and gentle curiosity. She took the time to understand who we are, how we work, and how we want kids and families to feel when they visit our website.

Svetlana has visited our clinic for professional photoshoots on many occasions since we opened our doors. She doesn’t just snap photos — she sees and captures the spark of our human essence. The character, warmth, and playfulness that are much more than what meets the camera lens. Invisible elements that can be felt, like healing and EmPOWERment in our welcoming space, and the emotional moments enacted with therapists and models in our playrooms. Because when families make the choice to come to us, they’re not just looking for help. They’re looking for a feeling that sparkles and runs deep. A feeling that their child will be supported to grow and thrive by a child therapist who sees and understands them from an emPOWERment lens, exploring and developing their strengths and resilience to overcome challenges.

On the Kids Reconnect website, visitors can feel that spark of joy at first glance through the photos that Svetlana has masterfully captured. It’s never a camera that’s behind powerful photos. It’s the heart and mind of the talented human who wields it. For our Kids Reconnect brand, it’s the incomparable Svetlana Yanova.

Q & A with Svetlana Yanova, professional photographer

We asked Svetlana a few questions about her experience with Kids Reconnect since we opened the clinic in 2021.

Kids Reconnect: How do you approach capturing emotions, especially with children and families?

Svetlana: I think a great mood is set right from the start – from the welcoming staff at reception or front desk, making small talk, letting the families relax and breathe. When I start photographing the families, it“s all usually super fun as we let kids be kids, have fun doing things they love like jumping on a couch, or pretending to wrestle with their sibling, getting lots of hugs from mom and dad, or picking their favourite toy for role-play. When kids are being authentic to themselves, it’s easy to get real smiles. And of course, the parents are always game to play with their kids, and be a little silly with them.

Kids Reconnect: If you could describe Kids Reconnect in just three words after working with us, what would they be?

Svetlana: So many that I could think of, but I’d pick welcoming, genuine, caring.

Kids Reconnect: Thank you! So when you first walked into our clinic, what stood out about the space or the team?

Svetlana: Oh my goodness, so many things! The main thing that has stood out for me since day one is the kindness of the reception staff, no matter who works that day, they always welcome you with a kind smile and that just makes my day. I love all the different toys and play sets which seem to cater to a very wide range of kids. There’re beautiful and welcoming rooms with comfy couches, flowers, and beautiful, thoughtful decor that make the space inviting, joyful, and playful.

Kids Reconnect: Has anything struck you during the numerous photoshoots we have had together so far — a moment, a feeling?

Svetlana: The people. Whether it’s therapists, students, or staff, people are really the heart of the place. I find the team to be professional and great at what they do. They are knowledgeable and intuitive, and whether in person or online, they are able to anticipate the needs of their clients and enhance the client’s experience, whether it be a glass of water, a snack, or an insightful written word that speaks to the heart. I’ve always felt welcomed and taken care of when I come to do photos at Kids Reconnect. Natalie and Marcella are the perfect example of therapists who can truly connect with their clients in a meaningful and helpful way. You can feel they truly care about their clients.

Kids Reconnect: Thank you Svetlana for capturing in pictures our warm, caring group of child psychologists, child therapists, play therapists, and business operations professionals, with your talented eyes and caring heart.

At Kids Reconnect, we love our website and its photos

We are proud of our the talented minds and warm hearts behind it.
